Sponsor an Alpaca with Special Needs
Want to help us care for one of our elderly or special needs alpaca? These guys are near and dear to our hearts. As our herd members age, or when they face unique health challenges, they often require additional care, specialized nutrition, and extra attention. Your sponsorship helps provide the support they need to live healthy, comfortable lives. Right now we have several:
Snuffles was born with a birth defect called "wry face." His muzzle is twisted, so he cannot live on hay. He gets fed Equine Sr and beet pulp shreds twice a day. The twist is more exaggerated than on some because his upper palate didn’t grow as long as it should have, allowing the twist in the lower jaw to exaggerate. He will be 7 this summer—exceeding our original expectations for him. He is otherwise healthy and happy and plays “uncle” to our yearling boys.
Megan turned 26 on June 5. She is at the end of life for an alpaca, but still has a good appetite and eats a double helping of Equine Sr and beet pulp shreds a day. At this age, we are caring for her day-to-day.
Rivie, our llama, will be 22 this year. As these animals age, their molars wear down, so they can’t eat hay efficiently, though they try. She gets special feed to keep weight on her.
Diamond is 19 and the herd matriarch. She always looks forward to her daily special feed.
You will receive biweekly updates on the life and care of the animal you sponsor.
