Tapestry Weaving

Author: Kirsten Glasbrook

Kirsten Glasbrook demonstrates the ancient art of tapestry weaving using wool yarn, fine linen and cotton on simple rectangular frames with notches, or purpose-built looms for larger tapestries. She shows step by step how to weave gorgeous tapestries, from choosing colors and winding warps through to creating images and finishing off with tassels and beads. Readers will learn how to create horizontal and diagonal lines, curves, motifs, shading, outlines, borders and more. There is a gallery of beautiful finished works to inspire everyone from beginners to experienced weavers. This best-selling title has been re-issued to inspire a whole new generation.

Kirsten Glasbrook was born in Denmark and trained as a weaver in John Becker's workshop in Copenhagen. After moving to London in the 1960s, she worked with Karen Finch, restoring antique tapestries. She currently works from her studio in Devon where she holds regular workshops. She exhibits widely and her work is held in numerous private collections both in the UK and abroad. Many of Kirsten's designs have a mystical, mythological, or meditative theme and some are inspired by the written word. She uses mainly wool, linen and cotton, finding the brilliant colors and the diversity of texture in the different yarns constantly challenging and exciting.
