This class covers what you need to know to weave on a rigid heddle loom. We will cover warp and weft calculation and dressing the loom. The main focus will be on plain weave concentrating on good edges and even spacing. You will weave a scarf using the yarns of your choosing.
You will have a week to practice before a final class to wrap things up and learn how to bind off.
Stop by the shop before class to choose appropriate yarns. We will have looms available (Schacht Crickets, Ashford Sample-It, etc) or you may bring your own rigid loom with all parts, and stand if you have one.
Supplies: 2 skeins worsted weight wool yarn. Select 2 colors or a variegated and a solid. Tape measure, tapestry needle (I like the Schacht needle and hem stick card combo), measuring tape, scissors, pen or pencil, and brown paper grocery bags.
Class Minimum: 2
Instructor: Mary Stever
To put it plainly I love fiber. I am a knitter, crocheter, a weaver and a spinner. Weaving and spinning are my greatest loves. I find spinning, especially on a spindle, very calming whereas weaving is exciting as you watch the creation of patterns and colors. I am a firm believer that there are no rights or wrongs when working with fiber. Ok, there are a few wrongs. In general there are many different ways to do things and that you need to check them out and find out what works best for you.
Class cancellations must be made 10 days in advance in order to get a 50% refund. Cancellations after that will get no refund. Our instructors require a minimum number of students to teach a class and they schedule their time accordingly. We keep class sizes small so that students get personalized attention. Thank you for your understanding.
